01

Challenge

The client is a Sri Lankan PTE coaching provider serving students preparing for the Pearson Test of English - a critical qualification for those seeking study and migration visas to Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

When they approached me, they had near-zero organic visibility on the Google properties that matter most to their students: google.com.au and google.co.nz. The business was relying entirely on paid advertising and word-of-mouth while direct competitors were occupying the first page for high-intent PTE preparation queries.

The challenge was compounded by a structural problem: their website had no international SEO framework and their content had no topical depth, leaving Google with no clear signal about what they should be authoritative on. Competing against established test prep brands with significantly higher domain authority meant a scattered approach simply wasn't an option.

02

Solution

My first step was a thorough technical and content audit before forming any strategy. This revealed two critical issues: missing hreflang tags were causing Google to serve the wrong pages in the wrong markets, and a flat content architecture was leaving the site with no entity-level topical relevance.

Phase one addressed the technical international SEO foundations. I implemented correct hreflang annotations for Sri Lanka, Australia, and New Zealand, resolved canonicalisation conflicts between localised URLs, and cleared crawl budget waste across the site.

With those foundations in place, I rebuilt the content architecture around a topical cluster model. Core PTE preparation pillars were supported by satellite content targeting the specific questions, scenarios, and test formats students actually search for - turning the site into a genuine resource rather than a thin brochure.

All 14 priority landing pages were rewritten with updated title tags, semantic heading structures, and content that addressed real search intent. A targeted link acquisition campaign in education and migration-adjacent publications then provided the domain-level authority needed to compete on high-volume head terms.

03

Result

Within six months, the client moved from near-invisible to ranking on the first page for their highest-value PTE preparation keywords across all three target Google markets.

Organic clicks grew by 91% and impressions by 76% - with the strongest gains on google.com.au, the market with the highest student conversion value. Ranking keywords expanded from 180 to over 340, with a significant increase in page 1 positions for competitive PTE coaching terms.

The campaign demonstrated that a specialist provider can outrank far larger competitors by targeting depth of relevance over breadth of spend. The client renewed for a continued campaign, reflecting the clear commercial value of the organic channel built during those first six months.
