01

Challenge

The client is an established Sri Lankan online jewellery brand selling gold-plated and 925 silver jewellery, including custom name pieces, with islandwide delivery and cash on delivery.

Unlike most SEO projects, this one did not start from a weak position. The store already had healthy search visibility and a steady flow of orders from Google. The brief was narrower and more commercial: move the core product and category searches higher, where each position gained translates most directly into sales.

That brief came with a fixed three-month timeframe. The work had to lift commercial rankings quickly without disrupting the visibility the store had already earned.

02

Solution

The project started with keyword, market, and competitor research. I mapped how Sri Lankan shoppers search for the store's core products, benchmarked the category and product pages of competing stores, and built a priority list of revenue-driving keywords with clear gaps to close.

A technical SEO audit followed, covering crawlability, indexation, and site structure, so that ranking improvements would not be held back by technical issues.

E-commerce SEO formed the core of the work. Category and product pages were optimised for the searches that matter commercially, and internal linking strengthened the pages the store most needed to rank. Local SEO reinforced relevance for Sri Lanka-specific and "near me" searches.

The store was also optimised for AI search through generative engine optimisation (GEO) and answer engine optimisation (AEO). AEO shaped key product and category content around the questions shoppers actually ask, with concise, answer-first copy that Google's AI answers can quote. GEO strengthened the brand as a clear, consistent entity with accurate product information, so AI assistants can understand what the store sells and recommend it when shoppers ask where to buy jewellery in Sri Lanka. Conversion rate optimisation then focused on turning the additional search traffic into orders rather than visits alone.

03

Result

Within three months, search became a noticeably bigger sales channel. Comparing the three project months with the three months before, sales referred by Google and Bing rose 64%, from LKR 995,725 to LKR 1,646,516, and orders rose 74%, from 157 to 275. The store ran no paid search ads, so all of this came from organic search. Bing, which had produced no sales before, began contributing orders.

The traffic behind those sales grew just as sharply. Comparing the last three months with the previous three, Google clicks rose 76%, from 7.4K to 13K, and impressions grew 2.8 times, from 35.5K to 98K. Average position moved slightly, from 5.5 to 6.1, and click-through rate from 20.8% to 13.3%, because the store now appears for far more searches. That wider reach still delivered 76% more clicks. Search Console marked the progress with four milestones, from 3K clicks in 28 days in June 2026 to 4.5K in September, with 5K already within reach.

The core product goal was met. Seven core product and category keywords now rank #1 in Sri Lanka, including custom jewellery, customised name engraving jewellery, gold-coated jewellery, and girls' necklaces and bracelets, with further product searches in the top five.

The GEO and AEO work opened a new channel as well. The store earned 7.32K impressions in Google's AI answers in three months, with daily impressions rising from about 14 when Search Console began reporting to about 80, almost six times as many. As more shoppers ask AI assistants what to buy, the brand is already part of those answers.
